The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology held the "Beijing Municipal AI Task Symposium" on January 20, 2020, at which to award certificates to those shortlisted for the "Key Task Undertaking Project Regarding the Innovation of the AI Industry's New Generation" organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Of all the 1,248 declaration units participating in this undertaking activity nationwide, 137 ones were finally selected as undertaking units, and 66 ones as potential units. With 42 undertaking units and 17 potential ones (accounting for 29.1% of the national total), Beijing ranked first among all participating cities. Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd. (GTCOM), relying on its "multilingual machine-translation system," stood out as one of the undertakers for the project organized by the MIIT together with Baidu, Netease and MEGVII. Elena Zhang, vice president of GTCOM, received the certificate for undertaker on behalf of the company.
